Dock levellers: A Guide to our New Control Panels.

What is a dock leveller?

Dock levellers serve to bridge the gap between a loading bay and a parked HGV in various applications. Ellard's Dock Leveller control panels can effectively and precisely compensate for the difference between the bay and the vehicle.

How does a Dock Leveller control panel work?

Dock levellers operate on a simple principle - they comprise of a deck, two hinges, and a lip. When a vehicle arrives, the deck and lip are raised until they are above the trailer bed. The lip then adjusts to bridge the gap between the dock and the trailer.

Ellard offers three different types of control panels for dock levellers, which are compatible with either swing or telescopic lips.

Dock Leveller control panel: Dock 1/3

The Dock 1 panel is designed specifically for swing lip levellers, which are commonly used for standard vehicle operations. The leveller can be easily controlled with a single valve that moves both the ramp and the lip, with an automatic lowering function for added convenience.

The Dock 3 panel enables users to easily control the levelling ramp with three valves, allowing for quick and easy adjustments to raise, extend, and return the lip. This panel is especially useful for more intricate operations that involve controlling a telescopic lip, which bridges a larger surface between the leveller and the vehicle, ensuring the safe transportation of products through precise positioning.

Dock Leveller control panel: ProDock

We also can provide users with the combination panels, the ProDock 1 and 3. The ProDock has the Promax motor controller built into the housing and can therefore control both the dock leveller and the door motor. This will provide a safety interlock between the two ensuring the door is open before the dock leveller can be operated.

With the addition of the ProDock users will have access to all the added benefits of the Promax, this includes wireless safety edge, traffic lights, induction loops, radar, external switch connections and radio control with additional connections for photocells.
