Every April 22nd, Earth Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect our planet. This year, the focus is on the critical issue of 'planet vs plastics'. It's a reminder that while plastics have become an integral part of our daily lives, they also pose a significant threat to the environment, taking centuries to degrade and having toxic effects on marine life, soil, and human health.
At Ellard, we are aware of the impact our operations have on the environment. That's why we proactively assess and reduce our carbon footprint year after year. Through a series of deliberate changes, we've made significant strides in reducing our environmental impact.
Our commitment doesn't stop there. Recognising the urgent need to tackle plastic pollution, we've turned our attention to our warehouse operations. Here, we've started to implement the 'Papier Jet System', a cutting-edge solution designed to drastically reduce our reliance on plastic packaging materials.
The Papier Jet System utilises 'Blue Angel accredited' paper, ensuring that our packaging materials meet stringent environmental standards. By converting paper into robust protective strips, we've successfully replaced traditional bubble wrap and other plastic-based materials. This not only reduces our plastic consumption but also maintains the high-quality standards our customers expect.
"At Ellard, we are dedicated to minimising our environmental impact, from our greenhouse gas emissions to our plastic pollution. We understand the importance of cleaning up the supply chain and will continue to make changes that lead to deep emission reductions. Our focus on sustainability isn't just a goal; it's a responsibility we embrace wholeheartedly." - Jules Drake, ESG Chair
At Ellard, our journey towards sustainability is an ongoing one. With each initiative we undertake, we're reaffirming our commitment to being stewards of the environment. This Earth Day and beyond, we're proud to lead by example, demonstrating that businesses can thrive while prioritising the health of our planet. Together, we're paving the way towards a more sustainable future.
